NQF Endorses Guidelines for Consumer-Focused Public Reporting
Date:10/28/2008

reports present otherwise complex and unfamiliar information in a way that that is understandable and helpful.

Ensure the report design and navigation enhance usability

The format of the report should provide clear navigation clues and make it easy to locate and print information for later use. Setting clear goals and involving the target audiences in design and testing is important to developing a report that is responsive to audiences.

Evaluate and improve the report

Report developers must regularly review and assess their quality information for relevance, accuracy and consistency. Periodic analysis and review will assure the continued relevance and usability of the public report.

How to Appeal

NQF is a voluntary consensus standards-setting organization. Any party may request reconsideration of the recommendations, in whole or in part, by notifying NQF in writing via e-mail no later than November 25 (appeals@qualityforum.org). For an appeal to be considered, the notification e-mail must include information clearly demonstrating that the appellant has interests that are directly and materially affected by the NQF-endorsed recommendations and that the NQF decision has had (or will have) an adverse effect on those interests.

Funding

This work was conducted under a contract from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Complete descriptions of these guidelines for consumer-focused public reporting and research recommendations are available in the voting report at http://www.qualityforum.org

The mission of the National Quality Forum is to improve the quality of American healthcare by setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement, endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance, and promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs.
