NIKE Softball Camps Congratulates Salisbury University Softball Team On Top-Rank In NFCA Poll
Date:5/3/2013

San Rafael, CA (PRWEB) May 03, 2013

NIKE Softball Camp Director and Salisbury assistant coach, Tom Stitcher helps his team earn the number one pick in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 poll for the first time in the program’s history. The Sea Gulls (35-2) claim the No. 1 ranking after going undefeated in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament last week to win their 18th CAC title, 17th consecutive. The 1-0 victory over Frostburg State University extended the team's winning streak to 24 contests.

With the No. 1 ranking, the softball team becomes Salisbury's fifth athletic program to be honored as the top team in the nation in a season. Salisbury will now await the announcement of the NCAA tournament field next week to find out where they will be heading to open up play in its quest for a national championship.

Assisting this program to its successful year is long time Nike Softball Camp director, Tom Stitcher. Stitcher is responsible for the Nike Softball Camp at Salisbury University this summer and plans to conduct his camp in a similar structure to his collegiate practices.

“NIKE Softball Camps is honored to once again be working with Tom Stitcher” Mike de Surville Vice President of US Sports Camps stated. “Along with his proven track record this season and success in past years at Salisbury, with 18 overall NCAA appearances, Coach Stitcher has a coaching style that makes campers eager to learn more about the game and continue to improve.”

Stitcher has been assisting the Sea Gulls for the past 20 years, pushing the team to the NCAA Division III Tournament the past sixteen seasons and to the Division III World Series in 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009 finishing 2nd in the nation in 2003 and 2005. In 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009 the Salisbury coaching staff was selected as the Division III Atlantic Regional 'Coaching Staff of the Year.'

The team is on track to have another strong finish in the NCAA Division III Tournament before Stitcher shifts his gears to directing NIKE Softball Camp this summer.
