(PRWEB) September 28, 2008 -- NIH awards a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research grant on "Novel Laser Scanning Technology for Computed Radiography" to VIXAR and iCRco

The National Institutes of Health has awarded iCRco partner Vixar a Phase I SBIR grant to develop a red VCSEL array assembly for the readout of images in computed radiography systems. Vixar is developing the new technology for use in computed radiography systems, and is collaborating with iCRco to evaluate the potential of the technology for the digital x-ray imaging market.

"Increasing the robustness of Computed Radiography products, increasing plate reading throughput, and increasing the spatial and contrast resolution of CR are critically important to us as we seek to provide more cost-effective, high quality medical care to patients in a wide variety of settings" commented Dr. Daniel J. Valentino, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer of iCRco. He added "The VCSEL technology has the potential to help us develop better digital x-ray imaging systems, and we're excited to be working with Vixar on this project."

"We are delighted to be collaborating with iCRco on this project" stated Dr. Mary Hibbs-Brenner, Ph.D., the CEO of Vixar. She added "Vixar has been developing 670 nm VCSEL technology since 2005, and we believe that computed radiography is a very important market that will benefit from the unique features of this technology. The NIH funding allows us to address the unique packaging an
