NHVS – Novant Vein Health Specialists Publishes New Article About What Bulging Veins Could Mean About Your Vascular Health

(PRWEB) November 29, 2013

Novant Vein Health Specialists is publishing a new article describing the possible implications of bulging veins on overall vascular health. Bulging veins are also called varicose veins, according to the Winston-Salem based center, and they are a type of vein disease. Over half of all Americans over the age of 50 have vein disease.

According to Dr. Ray Workman, a Winston-Salem vascular doctor at Novant Vein Health Specialists, "Bulging veins may seem like just a cosmetic annoyance. This belief can be misleading. Scientific evidence has shown that bulging or varicose veins are clearly linked to deep vein disease which has serious life-threatening consequences." The article recommends a thorough vein screening for every patient with swollen legs & ankles, followed by an individualized treatment plan using minimally invasive techniques such as sclerotherapy, endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) or microphlebectomy.

Novant Vein Health Specialists trust that, once the public is properly informed of the direct relationship between superficial and deep vein disease, they will become more proactive in terms of their vein health and seek out early vein disease treatment in Winston-Salem. Interested readers can find out more about vascular health, as well as about risk factors for vein disease an other topics at the Center website:

Varicose Vein Treatment Options

Varicose veins result from malfunction of their one-way valves which normally promote the return of blood from the extremities back to the heart. Blood backs up in the veins increasing the pressure against the vein walls resulting in bulging veins. More than just a cosmetic nuisance, however, varicose veins can lead to leg pain, swelling and discoloration.

Many people are unaware of the affordable, effective treatments available to eliminate varicose veins. Modern advances in technology have expanded treatment options to include techniques such as sclerotherapy, radiofrequency ablation and endovenous laser therapy. All of these procedures are well tolerated. They are performed by a highly skilled vein doctor on an outpatient basis with most patients able to return to work the next day.
