Free Online Program Helps Pharmacists Expand Niche Services

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pharmacists interested in developing or expanding a business niche in immunization delivery can benefit from the new eight-hour online business tools program "Creating an Immunization Niche in the Community Pharmacy: A Business Guide." Developed by NCPA and sponsored by Merck, this free continuing education (CE) program provides pharmacists with the information and resources on the business aspects of the immunization niche.

"Community pharmacists are in an ideal position to be immunization destinations for patients, providing convenience, cost savings and increased access to health care services year round," said Stephen Giroux, PD, NCPA president and owner of five pharmacies in Western New York. "From the everyday concerns of a resurgence of mumps, the approaching flu season, pneumonia, the need for vaccinations for travel abroad to the more global issues of pandemic or greater public health concerns, the independent pharmacy is the ideal center for adult vaccinations and immunizations in the community."

This program will give the community pharmacist take-home tools to launch a successful immunization/vaccination niche. Through a variety of immunization practice designs, including participation with a visiting nurse, staff training and clinics for vaccination/immunization or full-blown arrangements with detailing services and collaborative practice agreements, the community pharmacist can combine accessibility with an in-depth knowledge of patients, their health care and the local community. This program was designed to assist the community pharmacist to bring their practice to the next level in immunization services.

The free program provides 8 contact hours of ACPE CE credit, and participants receive a Certificate of Achievement for completing the course. For more information or to take this online CE program, v
