MyMedLab Releases First Offer in Its Unique Personalized Medicine Series

Managed care environments may be attempting to limit access to the more advanced tests, as a way to contain costs. And the shear number of solutions available, both online and in print, often leave the consumer with more questions than answers.

The goal of the "Personalized Medicine" series is put all this information together and speak to the consumer in one voice. The result is the potential is to spark a national conversation and transform an author's book into a health care manual. Initial lab tests, available directly to the consumer at over 2000 locations nationwide, create a starting point or health "baselines" that are unique to them. Once armed with their health information, they work directly with the author to chart their course. Then 60-90 days later they can retest only problem areas to see improvement and track changes in their health over time.

"I became an advocate for thyroid patients out of necessity," says author Mary Shomon. "My own struggle with thyroid problems has fueled my lifelong quest to provide real answers to people in need. The first step involves translating complicated medical information into plain language that everyone can understand. Once they understand the problem, the science of testing is the logical next step. I was thrilled at the chance to work with MyMedLab to help empower thyroid patients in this exciting new way."

Says Shomon, "Many women in their 40s and 50s are unable to determine if common symptoms like fatigue, menstrual irregularities, sleep disturbances, low libido, moodiness and weight gain are the result of a thyroid problems, perimenopause, or both.
