Muscular Development Store Says “Supplements Do Not Replace Food”
Date:3/7/2013

Setauket, NY (PRWEB) March 07, 2013

On March 7, 2013, Muscular Development Store issues a response to a recent report that found that many Americans rely on daily dietary supplementation rather than seeking nutrients from whole food sources.

According to The State Journal-Register of Illinois, the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “more than half of all Americans purchase dietary supplements annually, including multivitamins and calcium and protein supplements.”

The State Journal-Register of Illinois discusses the risks and benefits of supplementation, cautioning readers to make sure they are taking supplements for the right reason. The CDC report showed that more than half of all Americans purchase different dietary and nutritional supplements, including some that promise to increase your metabolism, shed unwanted pounds and help maintain an overall youthful appearance annually, including multivitamins and calcium and protein supplements.

“We always recommend that people try to get their nutrients from food rather than supplements,” said Melissa Schutz, a clinical nutrition manager at St. John’s Hospital. “The form of each nutrient may be better absorbed through food rather than a supplement.”

Brian Turner, spokesperson for Muscular Development Store, responds to the article, agreeing that when it comes to basic nutrition, a balanced plate equals a balanced diet. “We encourage our customers to work closely with their health professionals to make sure they have their core nutritional intake well-managed before they look to supplementation. Whole food sources to replace the body’s essential nutrients are the first things to secure for a healthy lifestyle. Your dinner plate should be colorful— at least 50 percent vegetables. You can find USDA serving recommendations at choosemyplate.gov.”

Turner adds that once a person has their weight and diet stabilized, they can consider whether supplementation can play a role in their fitness regimen. “Supplementation becomes useful for endurance athletes, bodybuilders, lifters— people with serious long-term fitness goals. If, for example, you're looking to increase muscle mass, you'll need to create a dietary approach that goes beyond everyday nutrition. Protein, for example, is one of the main metabolism drivers; you can’t amp up your energy expenditure without a corresponding increase in protein intake.”

Turner recommends pre-workout supplements designed to target specific fitness goals, singling out Gaspari Nutrition's award-winning sustained pre-workout products, which have been the subject of much critical acclaim within the bodybuilding community. “Supplements do not replace food. Foods tend to contain a complex matrix of beneficial ingredients— this is the very thing that makes them the best sources of essential nutrients, but when you are looking to attain specific fitness results, that's when you want a formula that contains only the ingredients you need.”

A good fitness regimen must be augmented with proper nutrition. At the Muscular Development Store, we offer products to enhance your workout and maximize the fitness benefits of your routine. We negotiate the lowest possible prices from manufacturers, and are proud to offer bestselling, brand-name sports nutrition products well below the suggested retail price.
