Muscular Development Magazine Suggests Creatine For Type 2 Diabetes Patients Lacking Muscle
Date:4/15/2013

Setauket, NY (PRWEB) April 15, 2013

On April 15, Muscular Development Magazine responds to an article published by the Natural Standard outlining a new study that shows decreases in muscle mass and strength in type 2 diabetes patients.

According to the article published by the Natural Standard, a new study conducted by the American Medical Directors Association found that patients with type 2 diabetes are at a greater risk for muscle deterioration, especially in the leg and skeletal muscles. After examining the functional capability of 60 diabetic and healthy men, the research team found significant differences in reaction time, muscle strength and muscle mass.

“Leg extension strength was also significantly lower among the diabetics, as was functional performance and handgrip strength,” the article says. “However, significant differences in muscle fiber size and reaction time were lacking between the two groups.”

Because of this, researchers concluded that patients with type 2 diabetes should participate in regular exercise programs to strengthen muscles. Brian Turner, a spokesperson for Muscular Development magazine, says patients might benefit from using creatine to enhance performance. “With the permission of a doctor, patients with type 2 diabetes should consider consuming creatine along with their exercise routine,” he says. “Creatine has been scientifically proven to enhance performance and allow people to work out longer and more intensely.”

Turner says type 2 diabetes, combined with age, could really speed up the deterioration of muscles. “Creatine could really nip that in the bud,” Turner says. While it’s commonly used by bodybuilders and weightlifters, creatine could also be used when muscle mass is at an all-time low. It will help give people the energy they need to work out those muscles and build them quicker.”
