Morcellator Lawsuit News: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Notes New Report Suggesting Informed Consent Needed Prior to Uterine Morcellation
Date:8/6/2014

New York, New York (PRWEB) August 06, 2014

As morcellator lawsuits (http://www.gynecaremorcellatorlawsuit.com/) continue to move forward in U.S. courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes a new report which suggests that informed consent should be obtained from patients before they undergo uterine morcellation. In an article published online in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (AJOG), researchers from NorthShore University Health System and the Mayo Clinic acknowledged that the use of power morcellators in laparoscopic hysterectomy and fibroid removals can result in the spread and upstaging of undetected uterine cancers, and assert that patients should be fully informed of this risk so that they can make their own decisions regarding such procedures. *

“Our Firm has heard from a number of women who allegedly experienced the spread of uterine sarcoma and other cancers due to power morcellators. It should be noted that information presented at a recent FDA hearing on uterine morcellation raised questions as to whether informed consent would be enough to mitigate risks, or if the procedure should be banned entirely ,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is now evaluating morcellator lawsuits on behalf of women who may have experienced the spread of undiagnosed uterine sarcoma and other cancers due to uterine morcellation.
