Money Makes A Great Motivator For Losing Weight

According to Healthland.time.com, weight loss can be easier when a person is offered cash for any extra pounds that they manage to shed. Employers have begun to use monetary incentives for any of their employees who can find the will and the way to lose weight. Since the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will expand health outcome-based incentives up to 30% of total health insurance premiums next year, more employers are willing to shell out money for those who want to lose weight.

In the Time report, it’s stated that researchers at the May Clinic found that those who participated in such a ‘money for weight loss’ program, lost about nine pounds in a year. Those who weren’t offered money were four times less likely to not want to lose any weight.

It was also shown that in a study that money for weight loss worked even better when you were faced with peer pressure.

"We found that these incentives were substantially more powerful when delivered in groups, which has important implications for both policymakers and the employers who are considering offering them." says lead author Jeffrey T. Kullgren, M.D., M.S., M.P.H., health services researcher in the VA Center for Clinical Management Research and the division of general medicine in the U-M Medical School.

Aside from gaining money for losing weight, those who want to save money when trying to lose weight can also be a big incentive amongst those who wants to lose weight. According
