As Mom+Social, the only one-day conference celebrating mothers who are making a difference globally, wrapped up last week in New York City, thousands of the brightest and most passionate people engaged in a global conversation both in-person and online via Livestream. The conference, held at 92Y Tribeca, was hosted by the United Nations Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, BabyCenter, The Huffington Post, 92nd Street Y, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. More than 400 mothers, innovators, and media attended the first-of-its-kind conference and 4,000 watched online.
Mom+Social served as both a lead in to Mother’s Day and the culminating event of the Global Mom Relay, a 63-day online conversation connecting moms and experts around the world to share their personal experiences, stories about motherhood, and global causes they care about. Since March 8, 2013, people in all 50 states and 141 countries participated in the relay that garnered more than 92,000 actions and more than $464,000 to help women and children worldwide. Mom+Social gave participants and experts a chance to connect face-to-face continuing to drive the momentum generated by the Global Mom Relay.
“The digital movement of mothers for mothers is just beginning,” said Elizabeth Gore, Resident Entrepreneur at the UN Foundation. “From now until September we’re collecting ideas about the best way the global community can support mothers and will deliver these solutions to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.” People can share their ideas at http://www.momplussocial.org.
