MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- MinuteClinic, the pioneer and largest provider of retail health care in the United States, announced that it has become a participating provider in the network of Health Net Federal Services/TRICARE North.

TRICARE is the uniformed services health care program for active duty service members and their families, retired service members and their families, members of the National Guard and Reserve and their families, survivors, and others who are eligible.

"Health Net Federal Services is extremely pleased MinuteClinic has joined our TRICARE provider network, extending the provider-base of quality health care to active duty and retired military personnel and their families in the TRICARE North Region," said Steve Tough, president, Health Net Federal Services.

Nearly 1.5 million TRICARE health care beneficiaries now have in-network access to MinuteClinic health care centers located inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in 13 states: Connecticut; Illinois; Indiana; Massachusetts; Maryland; Michigan; St. Louis; Missouri area; North Carolina; New Jersey; New York; Ohio; Pennsylvania; and Virginia.

"We believe MinuteClinic can help to increase access to care and provide cost-savings to families when it's needed most," said Chip Phillips, MinuteClinic president. "We look forward to working with Health Net Federal Services to extend care to TRICARE North beneficiaries through our convenient locations, which include many health care centers near military bases and government installations."

MinuteClinic health care centers are staffed by masters-prepared, board-certified nurse practitioners who specialize in family health care and are trained to diagnose, treat and write prescriptions when clinically indicated for common family illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections. Common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, MMR, and Hepatitis A & B are also available. MinuteClinic retail locations are open seven days a week including weekday evening hours. No appointment is necessary.

MinuteClinic nurse practitioners utilize nationally recognized medical protocols to diagnose and treat health conditions. With the patient's consent, treatment information is shared with his or her primary care physician to facilitate continuity of care.
