Mindray to Highlight New Arterial Stiffness Measurement Technology on the Resona 7 Ultrasound System at Society of Vascular Ultrasound Annual Meeting
Date:8/2/2018

Mindray, a developer of next generation medical technology, will be featuring its premium Resona 7 Ultrasound system with unique new upgrades at the Society of Vascular Ultrasound annual conference being held August 2-4, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Based on ZONE Sonography® Technology (ZST), the upgrades include a unique arterial stiffness measurement, which uses radiofrequency data-based quantitative analysis on vessel stiffness, R-VQS.

“R-VQS is featured on the five Resona 7 systems our hospital just purchased and installed,” said Paul Lucas, MD, director of the Vascular department at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. “We are excited about this industry first tool and what it could mean for vascular clinicians in helping to diagnose disease. To that end, we are partnering with Mindray to research the potential of this powerful technology.”

Arterial stiffness is a benchmark of aging, and classic cardiovascular risk factors can hasten this process. Healthcare’s recent focus on preventive care, has led to a growing interest in non-invasive evaluation of arterial stiffness.

Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) and Stiffness coefficient are accepted methods of quantifying Arterial Stiffness (AS). R-VQS, enabled by ZST, uses channel domain data to accurately calculate PWV and AS by automatically detecting the movement and diameter of intimal surfaces over six cardiac cycles. When this data is combined with the manual input of blood pressure, it yields a quantifiable report.

“In 2015, the American Heart Association published a statement to encourage further standardization of arterial stiffness measurements,” said Dr. Lucas. “There are several methodologies that are currently used to reflect arterial stiffness. We believe R-VQS could be a new and more automated method for this important measurement and look forward to our forthcoming research in support of this.”
