Midwest Orthopaedic Research Foundation Lays Out Global Vision for the Future
Date:10/22/2007

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Building upon its impressive past successes, the Midwest Orthopaedic Research Foundation (MORF) is laying out a global vision, which will propel it forward in the coming decade. This vision, centered on orthopaedic research, education and new product innovation, will solidify MORF as a world-class research institution and community resource.

Over the next year, MORF will be restructuring the board of directors, and embarking on a search for a new President, Executive Director and Director of Development. Bruce W. Blackburn, a partner at Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly, LLP, has been elected President of the board for the next year. Robert Sherman, PhD, who has served as president for the past five years, will continue as a board member. Other board members include: Richard Kyle, MD, Ramon Gustilo, MD, Thomas Varecka, MD, Joan Bechtold, PhD, Peter T. Bianco, MBA, N. Lawrence Bentson, and William Kane, MD.

"The Foundation is clearly defining its leadership role within the realm of orthopaedic research, innovation and education," said Joan Bechtold, PhD, Director of the MORF labs. "We will encourage all physicians and scientists with an interest in research and innovation to work with us to improve patient care."

The Midwest Orthopaedic Research Foundation (MORF), located on the Hennepin County Medical Center campus, has a 20-year history of designing many innovative and creative solutions to orthopaedic problems. The lab participated in the design of the first FDA approved uncemented hip replacement, and is one of the leaders in knee replacement research in the United States. MORF also pioneered the use of specialized screws and other devices for repairing fractured hips, and has brought innovative treatments for infection to surgeons across the country and internationally.
