Michigan Health & Hospital Association Elects 2009 Officers and Board Members

LANSING, Mich., June 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Members of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) elected new officers and board members during the association's Annual Membership Meeting today. Officers of the 2009 MHA Board of Trustees include Frank J. Sardone, chairman; Spencer Maidlow, chairman-elect; and Douglas Strong, treasurer. The board directs the Lansing-based association's statewide representation of hospitals and health care providers.

Sardone, president/CEO, Bronson Healthcare Group, Inc., Kalamazoo, will serve as chairman during the association's 2009-2010 program year beginning July 1. The terms of service of Maidlow, president & CEO, Covenant Medical Center, Inc., Saginaw, and Strong, director/CEO, University of Michigan Hospitals & Health Centers, Ann Arbor, will also span the 2009-2010 program year. Nancy M. Schlichting, president and chief executive officer, Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, will serve as immediate past chairwoman.

Newly elected board members include Mary Lou McFadden, president of the Michigan Association of Healthcare Advocates, Allegiance Health, Jackson; Gene Michalski, executive vice president/COO, Beaumont Hospitals, Troy; A. Gary Muller, president & CEO, Marquette General Health System; and Matthew Van Vranken, executive vice president, Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids.

Current MHA board member K. Douglas Deck, president & CEO, Munson Healthcare, Traverse City, was re-appointed to a new term of service.

Current MHA board members who will continue their terms of service are James Bogan, president & CEO, Portage Health, Hancock; Brian Connolly, president & CEO, Oakwood Healthcare Inc., Dearborn; Thomas DeFauw, president & CEO, Port Huron Hospital; Michael Duggan, president & CEO, Detroit Medical Center; William Jackson, president, Charlevoix Area Hospital; Paul LaCasse, DO, president & CEO, Botsford Hospital, Farmington Hills; Gregory R. Lane, senior vice president & chief administrative officer, McLaren Health Care, Flint; Philip McCorkle Jr., president & CEO, Saint Mary's Health Care, Grand Rapids; Patrick Murtha, chief executive officer, St. Joseph Health System, Tawas City; Lynn Orfgen, president & CEO, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, Rochester; Richard M. Reynolds, president, MidMichigan Health, Midland; Dale Sowders, president & CEO, Holland Hospital; Paul Spaude, president & CEO, Borgess Health, Kalamazoo; Dennis Swan, president/CEO, Sparrow Hospital & Health System, Lansing; and Patrick Wardell, president & CEO, Hurley Medical Center, Flint. In addition, Spencer Johnson continues to serve his term of office as president of the association.
