Date:5/5/2013

Southfield, Michigan (PRWEB) May 06, 2013

On April 18, 2013, The Michigan Spinal Cord Injury Association (MSCIA) held its Spring Gala at the Club Venetian in Madison Heights, Michigan. The Michigan spinal cord injury lawyers at the accident law firm of Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. are proud to announce their support and sponsorship of the event.

The gala is a fundraising event that honors spinal cord injury survivors. The focus of the MSCIA is to enhance and empower those with spinal cord injury and disease to achieve and maintain the highest levels of independence, health and personal fulfillment. The Association makes certain that these resources and efforts meet all communities in all parts of Michigan from Grand Rapids to Detroit, from Marquette to Ann Arbor.

The car accident attorneys at Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. are happy to be sponsors of such an event. Our sponsorship and commitment will help the MSCIA accomplish their mission, and help provide resources to spinal cord injury patients in our community.

In addition to being a sponsor, attending the event was Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. personal injury lawyer Robert Lantzy.

A spinal cord injury usually begins with a sudden, traumatic blow to the spine that fractures or dislocates vertebrae. An injury to the spinal cord can damage a few, many, or almost all of these axons. Some injuries will allow almost complete recovery. Others will result in complete paralysis.

One of the most common causes of a spinal cord injury is a result from being involved in an auto accident. In fact, in the United States alone, there are over 700,000 individuals with serious disabilities, primarily spinal cord injuries from a car accident. In addition, according to a report done by Michigan Traffic Crash Facts, for every person killed in a Michigan car accident, 76.1 persons were injured in auto accidents. 6,725 persons received A-injuries; an A-injury is incapacitating and prevents normal activities and generally requires hospitalization. A spinal cord injury from Michigan car accident is an A-injury.

“If you are involved in a car accident, there is no one sure way to ensure that you will not be seriously injured or suffer from a spinal cord injury. However, there are some preventative measures a motorist can take to help avoid these consequences, which include wear a seatbelt, be aware of your surroundings, and keep a safe distance away from other cars on the road,” says Attorney Robert Lantzy.
