Mesothelioma Lawyer Joseph W. Belluck of Belluck & Fox, LLP, Honored for Work on Behalf of New York Healthcare Consumers
Date:6/6/2013

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 06, 2013

Attorney Joseph W. Belluck of Belluck & Fox, LLP was honored June 5 at the “Making Law Work for Health Consumers” spring reception hosted by New Yorkers for Patient & Family Empowerment, Inc.

The non-profit organization recognized Belluck for his legal work on behalf of clients harmed by tobacco and asbestos companies and for his advocacy for patients’ rights as a member of the New York Medicaid Redesign Team work group.

“It is truly inspiring to be recognized by an organization whose work I have admired for a long time,” Belluck said. “I share this honor with the entire hard-working and highly dedicated legal team of Belluck & Fox and extend our appreciation.”

Patient & Family Empowerment is a non-profit organization that seeks to empower patients and their loved ones in interacting with the healthcare system, to strengthen public access to information about patient safety and to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in New York.

Other honorees at the June 5 reception included Elisabeth Benjamin, the Community Service Society’s vice president of Health Programs and founder of the Legal Aid Society’s Health Law Unit, and Janet Foley, director of Health and Safety at CSEA Local 1000 AFSCME and an advocate for safe lifting and moving of patients in healthcare settings.

Belluck is a founding partner of Belluck & Fox, LLP, a nationally recognized law firm that represents patients and families who are battling mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

Mesothelioma is an aggressive and incurable lung cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibers, typically decades ago during work in manufacturing, construction or the military. Asbestos is a heat- and fire-resistant material that was once commonly used as an insulator in industrial and manufacturing equipment and products.

“Being an honoree at this reception, hopefully, calls attention to the important work that continues on behalf of mesothelioma sufferers,” Belluck said. “Increasing awareness about mesothelioma and asbestos diseases is an integral part of our law firm’s mission.”
