New York, New York (PRWEB) July 20, 2013
Mesh lawsuit claims involving transvaginal mesh devices manufactured by C.R. Bard, Inc. and Ethicon, Inc. continue to mount in litigations now underway in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court. As of July 13th, court documents indicate that just over 3,980 Ethicon mesh lawsuits have been filed in the New Jersey litigation, while another 739 claims were pending in the C.R. Bard proceeding. Bernstein Liebhard LLP partner, Jeffrey S. Grand, is serving as Co-Liaison Counsel in both of these litigations. (In re: Pelvic Mesh Litigation/Bard, No. L-6339-10, n re: Pelvic Mesh/Gynecare Litigation, No. 6341-10)
“We continue to hear from women seeking to file transvaginal mesh lawsuits over injuries allegedly caused by Ethicon and C.R. Bard pelvic mesh products. It is not surprising that the cases in these two proceedings continue to mount,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to offer free legal consultations to women who allegedly suffered serious complications following implantation of devices manufactured by C.R. Bard and Ethicon, as well as American Medical Systems, Inc. and Boston Scientific Corp.
Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits
According to court documents, women who have filed claims in the two New Jersey proceedings have suffered mesh erosion, pain, infection, bleeding and other serious complications due to the allegedly defective nature of Ethicon and C.R. Bard vaginal mesh products. They further allege that the companies failed to provide adequate warnings about the serious risks associated with their products.
In addition to the cases currently pending in New Jersey, Ethicon, C.R. Bard and other manufacturers are named in more than 20,000 vaginal mesh lawsuits in multidistrict litigations underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia. Mr. Grand is serving on the Plaintiffs Steering Committees for several of those proceedings, including: In re: American Medical Systems, Inc., Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation - MDL No. 2325; In re: Boston Scientific Corp., Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation - MDL No. 2326; In re: C.R. Bard, Inc., Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation - MDL No. 2187; and In re: Ethicon, Inc. Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation - MDL No. 2327.
In July 2011, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) revealed that it had received more than 3,800 reports of serious complications involving transvaginal mesh products between 2005 and the end of 2010. The agency also changed its position regarding the frequency of such injuries in pelvic prolapse repair, declaring it no longer considered these complications to be rare.* Yet in spite of these issues, the FDA has not announced a mesh recall for any products manufactured by C.R. Bard, Ethicon or others.
Women who have allegedly suffered mesh erosion and other serious transvaginal mesh complications may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, and other injuries.
