Merlyn Medical Announces FDA Approval for FlexWarmer in a Joint Agreement with Elltec and Suzuken

TUSTIN, Calif., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Merlyn Medical has announced receipt of FDA approval (510K) for FlexWarmer, a portable fluid warmer that requires neither battery nor electric power. The new product will be launched at the 2007 EMS Expo in Orlando, FL, October 11-13 and the Anesthesiology Society of America Conference in San Francisco October 14-17.

"This lightweight, compact device was designed for emergency transportation vehicles, field use, rescue, or other applications where power is not available," says Jay Kotin, Merlyn president. "Heat is generated in about 2 minutes by simply activating a reusable, nontoxic heating pack, which lasts about one hour," Kotin explains. For more time, Kotin points out that the user can just insert another heating pack and snap it into action.

FlexWarmer is designed and produced in Japan by Elltec Co., Ltd., the country's leading manufacturer of infusion/blood warmers. Merlyn Medical has been appointed worldwide FlexWarmer distributor in an agreement with Elltec and Suzuken Co. Ltd., a US$12 billion company with 11,000 employees, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Merlyn is also North American and international distributor for additional Elltec fluid/blood warmers.

According to Katsuya Iwasaki, general manager, Kenz Products Department of Suzuken Co. Ltd., FlexWarmer is expected to revolutionize the way fluid warming is accomplished in the field. "With neither battery nor AC power necessary, FlexWarmer is the most convenient and economical way to warm cold patients and help prevent hypothermia," he says.
