ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The need for blood is constant, with someone in our community requiring blood from a generous donor every two seconds. But right now, Memorial Blood Centers is facing a serious challenge in maintaining an adequate supply of certain blood types to meet the needs of our 30 local hospital partners operating in the Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin communities we serve.
Due to existing patient needs and Standard Operating Procedures requiring a minimum supply available, Memorial Blood Centers is issuing a Critical Alert for all Type O donors--types O+ and O- blood.
While all blood types are always in demand, right now there is an Urgent appeal to B+ and A+ blood donors as well.
Fast Facts about Giving a Gift to Your Community:
Donors 17 and older must be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds; donors 16 years of age must weigh at least 130 pounds, be at least 5 feet tall, and have written parental consent. While walk-in donors are always welcome, appointments can be made in advance by visiting www.memorialbloodcenters.org.
