od began volunteering for the association more than 10 years ago and served as secretary-treasurer from 2007 to 2009. She is a past chair of the association's Investment Subcommittee and a past member of the National Audit Committee, ECC Business Management Committee and Corporate Operations Coordinating Committee.

Ralph M. Sacco, M.D., Miller Professor of Neurology, Epidemiology and Human Genetics and chairman of the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine, is president-elect. In 2007 Sacco received the association's Chairman's Award for helping create Power To End Stroke, a nationwide educational campaign to raise awareness of the risk of stroke among African Americans. In 2010 he will become the first neurologist to serve as American Heart Association president.
