hnician educators. Ms. Murer Corrigan has worked closely with the PTCB governing organizations, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Michigan Pharmacists Association to create and grow a cadre of trained, tested, and trusted pharmacy technicians nationwide.

"NOCA member organizations and all credentialing bodies can learn from the leadership of Melissa Murer Corrigan," said Cynthia C. Durley, MEd, MBA, Executive Director of the Dental Assisting National Board. "In the 13 short years of PTCB's existence, Melissa has worked with regulatory bodies and legislators in 30 states to help create an understanding of the need for education and credentialing for pharmacy technicians and the inclusion of certification standards in their pharmacy practice acts."

PTCB certification was recently recognized by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) as the benchmark and standard for ensuring patient safety in the growing pharmacy technician career field. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that "employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow much faster than the average occupation through 2014." Pharmacy technicians remain accountable to supervising pharmacists, who are legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients served by the pharmacy.
