Meeting in Montreal focuses on major issues for children

The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) will hold its biennial meeting in Montreal, March 31 April 2, 2011 at the Palais des congrs (convention center) de Montral. This meeting brings together thousands of leading US and international experts to present and hear the latest transdisciplinary research in child development. All presentations at this year's meeting (except for select invited presentations) will be embargoed for release on the first day of the meeting, March 31, 2011, 6:00 a.m., Eastern.

Some of the invited sessions that might interest reporters include:

  • Infants and toddlers at risk for autismnovel approaches, early detection and early intervention
  • A new look at national bullying prevention initiatives
  • Children who are especially reactive to stress and adversitynew research
  • Military children and families during times of warunderstanding the risks and the importance of resilience
  • New findings on the Abecedarian and CARE Studieslooking at how early education can later impact adult educational and economic outcomes
  • Second/foreign language immersion programs in schoolsnew findings out of Canada

SRCD was established in 1933 by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences. The Society's goals are to advance interdisciplinary research in child development and to encourage applications of research findings. Its membership of more than 5,700 scientists is representative of the various disciplines and professions that contribute to knowledge of child development. SRCD publishes the premier journal in the field, Child Development.
