Partnership with AMICAS will enable practice's strategic growth initiatives

BOSTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMICAS, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced a new partnership with one of the nation's most progressive radiology practices, Medical Diagnostic Imaging Group (MDIG) of Phoenix, AZ. This partnership will enable MDIG to achieve its aggressive growth initiatives.

MDIG is a private 32-radiologist practice providing both hospital and imaging center reading services at multiple imaging facilities located in Phoenix, Yuma, and Casa Grande. MDIG is a full-service radiology practice, offering diagnostic and interventional radiology expertise.

"Our partnership with AMICAS was exactly what we were looking for," said Michael Doukas, executive director at MDIG. "We needed access to state-of-the-art technology, support, and design in order to continue with our growth plans. AMICAS not only provides all of the above, but their solution is adaptable and scalable. With AMICAS, we can have a robust solution that allows for accountability on all sides of the technical delivery system."

Under the terms of the agreement, MDIG will utilize new, Web-based technology for integrated scheduling, reading, marketing, teleradiology, customer service, and tracking initiatives. Included in the partnership deal are AMICAS' Vision Series(TM) RIS, Vision Series PACS, Vision Reach(TM), and Vision Series Document solutions.

"We already provide reading services for a variety of hospitals and imaging centers, but we want to be able to offer these services to a broader market," said Mr. Doukas. "We found that our existing infrastructure was inhibiting our productivity and preventing us from growing as quickly as we would like. After a great deal of due diligence, we found with AMICAS a solution that would drive productivity gains by enabling our radiologists to read from a single worklist -- regardless of our radiologists' physical location or the facility for which they are reading."

As 100 percent Web-based solutions, AMICAS' Vision Series RIS, Vision Series PACS, Vision Reach, and Vision Series Document Management were designed to enable radiology groups to realize the benefits of a uniform, flexible, and powerful workflow. This design helps radiology groups to realize a superior return on investment by maximizing the use of existing resources and by establishing a standardized and uniform work environment for radiologists.

"We are very excited about partnering with MDIG, one of the fastest growing and most successful radiology groups in the country," said Stephen Kahane MD, president, chief executive officer, and chairman of AMICAS. "Our partnership with MDIG -- and with our other customers -- will help ensure that we always remain focused on solving radiology's most challenging and important workflow problems."
