Mayoral Dermatology Publishes Comprehensive Breast Cancer Guide in Recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Date:10/24/2013

Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 24, 2013

To help raise awareness of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mayoral Dermatology has published an online “Breast Cancer Guide” that covers all aspects of breast cancer. Important topics in the guide include current treatment methods and what women can do to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. Mayoral Dermatology hopes to provide vital information to as many women (and men) as possible who may have just received a diagnosis of breast cancer or are interested in learning more about this disease because they have been confronted with the possibility they might have breast cancer.

According to the Surveillance Epidemology and End Results webpage (http://seer.cancer.gov/statfacts/html/breast.html), a division of the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that nearly 235,000 individuals will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, with over 38,000 dying as a result of their breast cancer remaining undetected until it has progressed to its later stages. Because Mayoral Dermatology believes it is essential for everyone to be fully aware of the importance of detecting breast cancer while in its earliest stages, they have compiled this guide as a way of showing their appreciation for what National Breast Cancer Month represents and how much they care about spreading crucial information that may save a person's life.

Established in 1985 in partnership with Imperial Chemical Industries pharmaceutical division and the American Cancer Society, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues to emphasize the benefits of receiving regular mammograms as the most effective preventative for reducing the mortality rate of breast cancer patients. Twenty years ago, Vice President of Estee Lauder Companies Evelyn Lauder started the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, implemented the iconic pink ribbon as a way to symbolize the disease in a positive, progressive manner. Today, the well-known image of a folded-over pink ribbon reminds people that breast cancer can be defeated by pursuing aggressive preventative measures such as mammograms and monthly self-examinations.

In addition to October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mayoral Dermatology would also like everyone to be aware that October 18 is National Mammography Day. Declared by President Clinton in 1993 as the third Friday in October, National Mammography Day urges women who have a family history of breast cancer or women over 50 years old to make a point of getting a mammogram once a year. A mammogram is the safest and most effective procedure available that can detect breast tissue abnormalities in their earliest stages of development. Early detection of breast cancer can mean all the difference between defeating cancer without surgery or having to undergo a mastectomy for removal of advanced stage breast cancer.
