Mauricio Castillo, MD, New ARRS President
Date:4/19/2016

Mauricio Castillo, MD, became the 116th president of ARRS at its 2016 Annual Meeting this week in Los Angeles. He succeeds Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, who served as ARRS President from 2015 to 2016.

"I am thrilled and honored to have been named ARRS's new president,” Dr. Castillo said. “This year the society will work very hard to become the most trusted source of information for the radiologist. We are also continuing to expand and build new relationships around the world. Next year in New Orleans we will be piloting new, exciting, and innovative initiatives with global partners."

Dr. Castillo, an author, professor, and radiologist, has served as the chief of the division of neuroradiology and professor of radiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, for 23 years. Born in Guatemala, Dr. Castillo received his training in diagnostic radiology at the University of Miami in Miami, Fla., followed by a two-year neuroradiology fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta.

A prolific author and peer reviewer, Dr. Castillo’s 5th edition of Neuroradiology Companion is to be published later this year. He’s a well-known educator who has delivered hundreds of lectures and served as a visiting professor on more than 40 occasions.

Before becoming ARRS President, he was a member of its Executive Council, and has served as president of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) and as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Neuroradiology. He recently became an honorary international fellow of the Radiologic Society of the Republic of China.
