OAKS, Pa., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of southeastern Pennsylvania maternity care physicians will hold a press conference on Thursday, September 25 at 12:00 PM at their practice in Strafford to raise awareness of the growing maternity care crisis in Pennsylvania, and how a legislative stalemate in Harrisburg is contributing to that crisis. State Representative Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) and other legislators from southeastern Pennsylvania will attend as well.
"For many of our Ob/Gyns, what happens in Harrisburg two weeks from now could very well determine if they keep their doors open," said Dr. Stephen Krell, a board member of the Women's Health Care Group of Pennsylvania. "If the legislature adjourns for the year without reauthorizing the MCARE Abatement Fund, it will be a crucial blow to our profession, and to the health care needs of pregnant women all over the commonwealth."
The state legislature is only scheduled to be in Session for three days
in October before adjourning until January, 2009. The Women's Health Care
Group is currently spearheading a statewide campaign to raise awareness of
the fragile state of maternity care. For more information, visit
