Major Community Health Organization Lowers TCO with Ericom's Alternative to Citrix

Brant County Health Unit Implements Ericom's PowerTerm(R) WebConnect for Secure Remote Access to Windows Terminal Servers from PCs Running SUSE(R)

Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell

CLOSTER, N.J., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericom Software, a leader in Application Access and Virtualization solutions, today announced that the Brant County Health Unit, a major Canadian community health agency, has evaluated, selected and successfully deployed Ericom's alternative to Citrix, PowerTerm WebConnect, enabling secure access to Windows Terminal Server applications from Health Unit PCs running SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell.

The Brant County Health Unit sought an intuitive and cost-effective solution that would provide secure access to Windows Terminal Server based Microsoft Office applications and immunization records from the Ontario Ministry of Health. Prior to PowerTerm WebConnect's implementation, users needed both desktop systems and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop powered laptops in order to access all necessary applications and records. With Ericom's solution, users can efficiently access all applications and records solely from their laptops, eliminating redundant desktops. PowerTerm WebConnect provides access to Windows Terminal Servers, Virtual Desktops, Blade PCs and legacy hosts with full compatibility. The Brant County Health Unit has already begun to realize significant cost savings with Ericom's PowerTerm WebConnect, by lowering overall IT management and maintenance costs with desktop consolidation.

"My main requirement was ease-of-use for both the administrator and the end-user," said Rob Bannerman, the Health Unit's Computer System Administrator. "We don't have time for complicated set-ups and updates. It was great to be able to get PowerTerm WebConnect RemoteView set up and running in a short amount of time. As a result of deploying PowerTerm WebConnect, staff members can use their laptops for everything -- Office applications, Internet, email, as well as for accessing additional applications residing on the Windows Terminal Server."

Justin Steinman, director of marketing for Linux and Open Platform Solutions at Novell, said, "SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop is proving itself to be an affordable and easy-to-manage component of an efficient IT operation, and the addition of a top product like PowerTerm WebConnect to the customer solution simply increases that value. We are pleased that the Brant County Health Unit is experiencing significant savings running these Novell and Ericom technologies together."

"Our customers seek reliable solutions that extend the value of their IT resources and infrastructure," said Fred Read, President and CTO of FinniTech Technical Services, an Ericom business partner. "FinniTech found Ericom's PowerTerm WebConnect as the perfect complement to Brant County's SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop implementation. As a solid Server Based Computing solution, PowerTerm WebConnect provides robust features and centralized management tools that streamline IT efficiencies in the most cost-effective manner."

"As the alternative to Citrix, PowerTerm WebConnect significantly reduces the cost and complexity of managing desktops and applications," said Ilan Paretsky, Ericom's VP of Marketing. "PowerTerm WebConnect addresses everyday IT challenges including desktop management, privacy of information, IT optimization, business continuity and disaster recovery. The flexibility and cost-effectiveness of our solution enables its deployment across the organization -- while empowering users with anywhere, anytime secure access to business critical applications."
