MSA Executive Search Recruits Dr. Thomas McAfee, CEO of Keck Medicine of USC Medical Foundation
Date:8/22/2013

Kansas City, Missouri (PRWEB) August 22, 2013

MSA Executive Search, an INTEGRATED company, dedicated exclusively to healthcare executive search, announced the successful recruitment of Thomas McAfee, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Keck Medicine of USC Medical Foundation, located in Los Angeles, California. Dr. McAfee is expected to begin his new role on Sept. 3, 2013.

An in-depth analysis of Keck Medicine of USC’s organizational mission and a detailed profile for this mission-critical physician executive position were developed as a guide in this nationwide recruitment effort led by Jane Groves, MSA Executive Search Executive Vice-President.

“This search provided us with the opportunity to partner with an exceptional organization, senior leadership team and physician leaders, all with a bold vision for the future of Keck Medicine of USC,” said Groves. “We were able to develop a slate of excellent candidates for consideration. We feel certain that Dr. Tom McAfee will make a strong contribution to the success of this organization, and will join and enhance an exceptional senior leadership team.”

As CEO, Dr. McAfee will lead the physician alignment strategy and infrastructure development of the newly formed Keck Medicine of USC Medical Foundation. Through key growth initiatives, Dr. McAfee will prepare the foundation to be the home for acquired physician practices and enable the foundation to provide a more comprehensive range of health services in a broader geographic area. Dr. McAfee will also drive quality and best practice standards associated with the foundation and promote an integrated environment to streamline referrals and care coordination.

“The demand for physicians to fill senior leadership roles within healthcare organizations has dramatically increased, and in many ways, is considered necessary for enterprise wide clinical integration,” says Pam Sime, SPHR, MSA Executive Vice-President and Practice Leader. “The complexity and importance of this physician executive search was magnified because the successful candidate would be so closely involved in the formation and growth of Keck Medicine of USC Medical Foundation. We are extremely confident that Dr. McAfee’s previous experience and dedication to implementing change will allow him to contribute to the continued success of such an outstanding health system.”

Dr. McAfee brings with him 10 years of healthcare leadership experience and a strong clinical background. Most recently, while at the UC San Diego Health System, he was Dean of Clinical Affairs, President of the UC San Diego Ambulatory Surgery Center, CEO of the UC San Diego Faculty Practice Plan and a clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

According to a press announcement released by Keck Medicine of USC, Tom Jackiewicz, Senior Vice President and CEO of USC Health, to whom Dr. McAfee will report, said, “Tom McAfee has both the clinical and health-care business management experience to excel in his new role. I am confident that his leadership will take our health-care system to a new level of excellence.”

As an integral part the senior executive team, Dr. McAfee will work closely with leadership across the health system, including department chairs and administrators at the Keck Medical Center, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and USC Care Medical Group, all of which are part of Keck Medicine of USC.

“USC has developed an ambitious vision to be a top performing medical school and health system and regionally and nationally,” Dr. McAfee said. “Tom Jackiewicz has assembled a first-rate leadership system, and the facility and department chairs impressed me as having the commitment to passion to be the best. It’s an exciting time to be at USC.”
