MEDRAD Plant Named IndustryWeek Magazine Award Finalist

WARRENDALE, Pa., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MEDRAD's Heilman Center electro-mechanical manufacturing plant located in Fox Chapel, Pa. has been selected as a 2007 IndustryWeek magazine "Best Plant Finalist." This award is issued annually to plants that are on the leading edge of efforts to increase competitiveness, enhance customer satisfaction, and create stimulating and rewarding work environments.

MEDRAD's Heilman Center plant was one of approximately twenty-five finalists selected from close to 200 applicant companies. Ten North American winners will be announced in the January 2008 issue of IndustryWeek.

MEDRAD's Heilman Center Plant manufactures electronic fluid delivery systems that enhance cardiovascular (CV), Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) diagnostic scans, and MR coils and accessories used in medical imaging. The plant opened in 2002 and currently operates one shift of 176 employees working five days per week. Significant achievements include launch of a lean manufacturing system that has reduced assembly errors and training time by 35 percent, increased output per employee by 20% and increased overall productivity 30 percent. The plant also converted to cellular manufacturing, and moved to an inventory "demand pull" replenishment technique program, resulting in a total inventory savings to date of $1 million.
