Luxury Resort Operates Seasonal Green Market for 2,300 Staff

The Breakers' Commitment to Fresh, Locally-Grown Produce Delivers

Farm-to-Plate Message to Team Members

PALM BEACH, Fla., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Breakers Palm Beach ( is not just a luxury oceanfront resort, but a company deeply committed to each employee's personal well-being. The latest example is the hotel's very own Green Market, which features the best of Florida's growing season exclusively for The Breakers' 2,300 associates. The Breakers' Green Market will resume its seasonal operation on Friday afternoons beginning November 7, 2008, and sell a cornucopia of local, organically grown produce from carefully selected cottage purveyors and boutique farms.

Modest in size but abundant in offerings, the Green Market offers various micro lettuces, sweet corn, hydroponic strawberries, heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, squash, zucchini, green beans, celery, herbs, blueberries, juices, fresh cut flowers and even Orange Blossom honey -- all cultivated within Palm Beach County and delivered within 24 hours of harvest.

"We are inspired to continually invest in our organization and to expand the ways we can contribute to the quality of life of our associates and their families," said Denise Bober, director of human resources of The Breakers. "On one front, the Green Market unites our long-standing environmental sensitivity with our dedication to the finest quality standards. But it also provides our associates with accessible options for healthy eating. Giving our employees opportunities to take responsibility for personal well-being is one of our top priorities, and we take pride in making these Friday afternoons a healthy and delicious shopping list for them."

One of the pioneering green hotels in the state of Florida(1), the entrepreneurial Breakers has also developed its own Organic Herb & Vegetable Garden on site, where resort landscape specialists cultivate a variety of micro greens, herbs and other naturally harvested ingredients. The edible and aromatic yield from this Garden is utilized daily by The Breakers' chefs. According to Anthony Sicignano, The Breakers' executive chef of restaurants, "Our Garden is a fantastic collaboration between our chefs, our talented landscaping team, and our procurement staff who are extraordinarily knowledgeable of best practices in sustainability and how to raise the bar even further."

(1) The award-winning Five Diamond resort has been at the forefront of the hospitality industry with its broad spectrum of ecologically-friendly practices integrated in public areas and back-of-house, with the overriding goals to conserve resources, protect the environment, and contribute to the health of guests and employees. The Breakers earned Green Lodging Certification by Florida's Department of Environmental Protection in 2006, the first hotel in Palm Beach County to receive the designation.
