RFP Seeks to Make Rapid Advances in Nation's 4th Leading Cancer Killer

BETHPAGE, N.Y., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the largest private foundation dedicated exclusively to supporting pancreatic cancer research, has announced its Year 2009 Request For Proposals (RFP) to identify promising research into pancreatic cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.

The Lustgarten Foundation's annual RFP seeks to make rapid advances in the battle against pancreatic cancer through a combination of cutting edge technology and novel ideas. These one-year, $100,000 grants encourage the best and brightest minds to bring forth their most promising research ideas. To date, The Lustgarten Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in support of innovative research projects, many of which might not otherwise have been realized.

Funding from The Lustgarten Foundation has enabled investigators to establish the 'proof of principle' required to seek large-scale research awards. To date, Lustgarten grantees have received nearly $100 million in additional research awards from such leading institutions as the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, American Association for Cancer Research and American Cancer Society.
