Long Term Care Leader Applauds Clinton for Bringing Critical Issue of Senior Care into the Presidential Debate
Date:12/8/2007

WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Statement of Bruce Yarwood, President and CEO, American Health Care Association & National Center for Assisted Living:

"On behalf of the entire long term care profession and the frail, elderly and disabled who receive care and services in our nation's nursing and assisted living facilities, I commend Hillary Clinton for being the first presidential candidate to address the critical issue of long term care in America. We know that in January, the first baby boomer will receive her first social security check -- and in just three years, she will be eligible for Medicare. I applaud Senator Clinton for recognizing the need to ensure critical high quality long term care -- for those who require services now, and for the 77 million baby boomers who will need this critical care in the not-too-distant future.

"Senator Clinton's long term care proposal seeks to ensure a qualified and well-trained workforce, to make long term care insurance more secure and affordable, and to enhance the quality of care available for our nation's most vulnerable seniors and persons with disabilities -- goals long shared by the American Health Care Association, National Center for Assisted Living and our nearly 11,000 member facilities.

"We pledge to work together with Ms. Clinton and other policy makers in a culture of cooperation to ensure our parents, grandparents and all Americans receive the highest quality long term care."
