Alpharetta, GA (Vocus) June 2, 2010 -- Physician recruiting firm LocumTenens.com has expanded its service lines to include the high demand specialty of emergency medicine. A leading full-service physician and CRNA recruiting agency and operator of the largest job board for the locum tenens industry, LocumTenens.com adds this new specialty to its current service areas including anesthesiology, primary care, psychiatry, radiology and surgery.
Recognizing the increasing need for supplemental emergency medicine staffing, LocumTenens.com has expanded in order to help hospital clients nationwide address the growing challenge of maintaining appropriate staffing levels in emergency departments.
Demand for emergency medicine services has increased sharply since 1997, from 92.8 million emergency department visits in 1997 to 119.3 million visits in 2009, a 28% increase that is projected to continue increasing through 2015. According to a projection completed by the Innovations Center Futures Database, the number of emergency department visits in the United States will rise to roughly 123.8 million visits by 2015.
After experiencing such explosive growth in need for emergency medicine services, many US hospitals have struggled to keep up with demand. According to the American Hospital Association’s The 2007 State of America’s Hospitals – Taking the Pulse, 47% of all hospitals have reported emergency department capacity issues, and 65% of urban hospitals report some sort of capacity issues with their emergency department.
“LocumTenens.com’s strategy is to build specialty teams that provide excellent service for our clients in high-demand areas of the hospital. We will take the same focused approach to emergency medicine as we have to our existing specialties,” said Shane Jackson, president of LocumTenens.com. “It is important to us to be able to serve our customers in an area of the hospital as crucial as the emergency department.”
Diana Denman Holmes, a veteran locum tenens staffing executive, will lead the new LocumTenens.com emergency medicine division.
“We are very excited to increase the depth of services we are able to offer our clients,” said Holmes. “We know from our customers the challenges they are facing regarding staffing in the emergency department, and we look forward to the opportunity to serve them in this additional area of the hospital.”
