Authorized Trimble dealer Location Lock, LLC is making driver safety a priority and delivering driver habit analytics directly to the driver and his supervisor. While many Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking providers are offering track and trace services, Location Lock is working with Trimble Field Services Management (FSM) to provide drivers and their companies with real-time driver-style feedback.
“Our customers are proactively looking for ways to reduce costs, and have realized those costs are not just in fuel and overtime,” Stephen Conroy, LocationLock CEO, stated. “Driver Safety is a concern for all mobile workers. Trimble’s Driver Safety Solution not only saves business money but it equips companies with the tools they need to save lives." Trimble Driver Safety gives supervisors and managers the visibility needed to ensure their workers are engaged in safe driving habits.
The Driver Safety solution analyzes each worker's driving habits to generate driver scorecards. Safety managers simply review their team's scorecards and work directly with their drivers to specifically address areas where improvement is needed. The four areas monitored by Trimble's Driver Safety solution are: rapid acceleration, quick deceleration, harsh maneuvering around turns, and speeding above the posted speed limit. Improvements increase worker's scores to help mitigate risk by reducing speeding tickets, liability claims from accidents, and overtime, workers' compensation expense. In short, improving driver safety leads to less vehicle downtime and fewer accidents.
Because the system identifies each driver, it accumulates information over time. If a driver has a poor habit of excessive acceleration, harsh braking, or even aggressive turning, the system provides immediate feedback to the driver through a "black box" installed in the driver's vehicle. As the driver's habits improve, the feedback indicates improvement and can be realized by the driver's black box. The black box works by using a combination of three lights (green, yellow, and red) and audible tones or beeps. If a driver exhibits poor driving habits, the lights change from green to yellow and eventually to red. As a driver steadily improves his driving habits, the lights revert back from red to yellow to green. The supervisor also has the ability to enable audible warnings or "beeps" for one or more violation types. This immediate and cumulative feedback provides guidance to the driver and with change of habit comes a driver who is more safety conscious.
As fleet owners and managers continue to search for ways to reduce their costs and increase their margins, they will continue to evaluate their GPS tracing options and will demand more from their provider. Location Lock and Trimble continue to lead the industry by offering best practice solutions.
