Lisa and Mark Schwartz Donate $ 1 Million to Northern Westchester Hospital

Westchester County, New York (PRWEB) February 10, 2015

Northern Westchester Hospital announced today that Lisa and Mark Schwartz, two highly respected business leaders and philanthropists from our community, donated $1 million in support of NWH’s ongoing surgical services modernization. As a hospital that provides high quality patient-centered care, NWH is redesigning and expanding its surgical suites to ensure adequate space for new technologies and to better align the facility with the sophisticated procedures being performed by our surgical staff. Northern Westchester Hospital continues to receive recognition for its leading-edge surgical programs including Spine, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Breast Surgery, and Robotics, among others.

“Our community derives tremendous benefit from having such a high-quality hospital that is dedicated to providing patient-centered care. By involving patients and family members as key members of the care team, patients become empowered and provide important input in the direction of their care. We believe this innovative approach will help define how healthcare will be delivered in the years to come,” commented Mrs. Schwartz. Lisa Schwartz is the founder of Rainbeau Ridge in Bedford Hills, NY, an author, and Chair of Seed Global Health, an organization dedicated to strengthening health systems globally. Lisa Schwartz was also a driving force behind the NWH Food is Care patient nutrition program. “We are proud to make this level of financial commitment and we completely support the vision of the NWH leadership team. Their achievements in building NWH into such an important community asset demonstrate their ability to successfully manage the challenges of the current healthcare environment.”

“Providing high-quality, clinically sophisticated healthcare in a community setting is an important element in controlling U.S. healthcare costs. Community hospitals that are run efficiently and produce consistently high quality outcomes are able to provide care at a lower cost than major medical centers. Our financial support of Northern Westchester Hospital is an investment in our community and in creating a sustainable, cost-effective healthcare model,” stated Mr. Schwartz. Mark Schwartz is Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs and Chairman of Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific. Mr. Schwartz serves as a trustee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and a member of its Executive Committee. He also serves as trustee at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

“Lisa and Mark Schwartz have been longstanding supporters of Northern Westchester Hospital. As respected healthcare thought leaders, they have provided tremendous guidance to NWH and Mark has personally invested his valuable time serving as a three-term member and Vice-Chair of the NWH Board of Trustees. With such a deep understanding of healthcare, their substantial gift is a true vote of support for our uncompromising commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care for our community,” stated Joel Seligman, President and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital.
