Lipitor Lawsuit Website Launched by Bernstein Liebhard LLP to Provide Information to the Public Regarding Lipitor Side Effects, Ongoing Litigation
Date:9/7/2013

Lipitor to add new warnings to its label regarding this potential risk. Then in May 2013, another study published in the British Medical Journal reported that people taking Lipitor had a 22 percent higher risk of new-onset diabetes.**

In February 2011, the FDA warned of the potential for serious skeletal muscle side effects in patients taking Lipitor who were also being treated with protease inhibitors, a class of drugs used to treat HIV and hepatitis C.*** In March 2013, the British Medical Journal reported that patients treated with drugs like Lipitor faced a 30% increased risk of being hospitalized for acute kidney damage within four months of initiating Lipitor treatment****

Court documents indicate that a number of Lipitor lawsuits have been filed on behalf of patients who developed Type 2 diabetes, allegedly due to their use of the statin. In August, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation rejected a request by plaintiffs to consolidate all Lipitor diabetes lawsuits in a single federal court for pretrial proceedings. However, individuals who believe they may have developed diabetes due to their use of Lipitor can still pursue product liability claims against the manufacturer of this drug. (In re Lipitor (Atorvastatin) Litigation, MDL No. 2459 (JPML))

Individuals who took Lipitor and developed diabetes, skeletal muscle side effects, or kidney or liver damage, may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
