Lilly's gift makes up nearly 25% of fund raising goal for United Way of

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) chairman and chief executive officer Sidney Taurel today presented a $10.8 million check to the United Way, which represents Lilly's commitment to the agency's 2008 fundraising campaign. For the United Way of Central Indiana, Lilly's commitment represents nearly 25 percent of their 2008 annual campaign goal.

Lilly exceeded its financial goal by 11 percent or $1 million, while employee participation in the United Way program increased by 9 percent. The check represents the contributions of Lilly employees across the United States with a matching gift amount from the Lilly Foundation.

"Each of us has heard a story about how a United Way agency has touched the life of a Hoosier in need. By doing so every day they make our community a better place to live."
