Kids Create “Thinking of You” Cards While Visiting the Doctor

Dallas, TX (Vocus) -- When a child doesn’t feel good, sometimes even the best toys in the doctor’s office can’t make them feel any better. Lemons to Aid is hoping to help children with a few aches and pains redirect their thoughts toward something a little sunnier. Pediatricians can now equip their offices with a Lemons to Aid Pediatric Kit – a caddy filled with stickers, crayons and Thinking of You cards. The child is encouraged to use the supplies to decorate a card for another child who might be hospitalized.

“Our goal for the Lemons to Aid Pediatric Kits is that in the process of decorating the cards, the child might garner that fundamental lesson of when we try to make others feel better, we actually feel better in return,” said Melissa Plaskoff, founder of Lemons to Aid. “What better way for a kid to spend their time waiting to see a doctor, whether it’s for a case of the sniffles or an annual check up, then to make a card to brighten another child’s day. This is a lesson we can teach our children – not only to give, but to find that part of ourselves to share with others, no matter how we feel.”

Logistically, each participating doctor’s office makes a $50 donation to Lemons to Aid, www.lemonstoaid.org and in return will receive a kit for the waiting room. Once cards have been decorated, the pediatrician’s office will then deliver the cards to the local hospital affiliated with the practice to share with the sick children who are hospitalized.

“The Lemons to Aid Pediatric Kits are a simple tool for both parents and medical professionals who focus on the needs of children daily to empower kids with the essential lesson that when we give to others, we actually receive so much more in return,” Plaskoff said. “I’m encouraging pediatricians across America to support Lemons to Aid in creating future generations filled with altruism and compassion.”
