Leading Plastic Surgery Experts Available to Discuss Proposed ,Cosmetic Surgery Tax
Date:11/24/2009

Leading plastic surgery experts from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), are available to discuss the recently proposed cosmetic surgery tax.

Arlington Heights, IL (Vocus) November 24, 2009 -- Leading plastic surgery experts from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), are available to discuss the recently proposed cosmetic surgery tax.

WHAT: Some of the nation’s leading plastic surgery experts are available for interviews throughout the holiday weekend regarding the proposed 5% cosmetic surgery tax including:

  • How this tax would affect middle-America.
  • The impact this tax would have on patient privacy.
  • The proven ineffectiveness that this policy will have in raising revenue—failure in New Jersey.
  • The serious long-term implications of having government, not doctors determine what is medically necessary and thus exempt from such a tax.
  • Discrimination against women seeking cosmetic procedures.
  • How the plastic surgery community is fighting back on a grassroots level.

WHY: In response to Saturday’s vote to continue the debate over the Senate’s proposed healthcare bill, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) – the world’s largest plastic surgery society and a member of a growing list of medical organizations opposed to this bill – renews its stance that a tax on cosmetic surgery procedures is discriminatory, arbitrary and ineffective. Furthermore, ASPS and its members would like to address other unintended consequences of such a tax, including the dangerous possibility of compromised patient privacy – which has not yet been addressed.
