Expert in International Health Economics and Financing and Health Policy
Will Play Leading Role in Health Systems 20/20 Project
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Abt Associates announced that Dr. Hong Wang, M.D., Ph.D., has joined the company as a Senior Health Economist working primarily on the Health Systems 20/20 project, which is the USAID Bureau of Global Health's Principal Project for Health System Strengthening.
His responsibilities will include overseeing and guiding the health financing and economics activities of the project; leading the strategic technical assistance and applied research assignments; representing the project in meetings and public forums on financing and economics issues and topics; and ensuring the quality of the project's health financing related work.
Dr. Wang, most recently a faculty member at Yale University, has more than 20 years experience in research, teaching, and consulting in health policy internationally. Dr. Wang received his M.D. from Beijing Medical University, and his Ph.D. in Population Health from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In the U.S., he has also been a Takemi Fellow in International Health at the Harvard School of Public Health in Cambridge, MA, and a Visiting Scholar in Health Economics and Health Management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In China he was deputy director of both the National Health Economic Institute of the Ministry of Health in Beijing, and the Department of Health Economics at Beijing Medical University. Dr. Wang has a solid and extensive research background and has conducted studies and authored numerous publications on health policy issues particularly in the realm of rural community health initiatives, health insurance reforms, and health financing and payment schemes.
