Latest Court Records Show 6% Increase In NuvaRing Lawsuits, DrugRisks Notes

The IUD safety advocates at DrugRisks.com are announcing updated legal news on the site for women using the vaginal ring contraceptive NuvaRing. A recent report from a federal panel shows the number of claims alleging blood clots from the devices has risen*.

DrugRisks was created to improve the safety of patients using popular prescription devices by providing the latest recalls, warnings, research and legal news. Visitors can find out if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.

Health experts have linked contraceptives like NuvaRing to higher risks of blood clots than traditional birth control pills. Last year, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study finding vaginal ring contraceptives could relate to a 2.5 to 3-fold increased risk of blood clots**.

As of March 5th, 1,097 patients had filed a NuvaRing lawsuit alleging blood clots in a special federal court in Missouri. The formal case is known as In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri.

Now, DrugRisks has added a report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, showing the number of claims has increased to 1,163 as of May 15th, an increase of over 6%*. The judge overseeing this litigation recently scheduled trials to start in October***.
