Latest Best Drug Rehabilitation Blog Post Looks at 12 Tips to Choose the Best Rehab Facility

(PRWEB) September 04, 2014

In its latest blog post, Best Drug Rehabilitation, which offers treatment programs and believes that having family close by during a stay in rehab can make a big difference in whether or not the process is successful, is highlighting 12 tips to help addicts and their loved ones choose the best rehab facility.

“Not all rehab facilities are created equal,” commented Best Drug Rehabilitation’s CEO Per Wickstrom. “And what’s why it’s essential for addicts and their loved ones to do their research, ask questions, and narrow down their choices before, ultimately, making a wise decision that is going to give an addict the best possible chance of recovering and staying sober.”

According to Best Drug Rehabilitation, the 12 tips that addicts and their loved ones should keep in mind are:

1. Location: Pick a location that is best suited to an addict’s needs. This could mean a rehab facility in the middle of a large city, or it could mean one located in a more natural setting further away from distractions. The ease at which family members can also travel to the facility is also a consideration.
2. Credentials: What a rehab facility says about itself is important, but what neutral 3rd parties say is even more meaningful. Look for a rehab facility that is licensed, certified and accredited.
3. Multiple therapies: Many addicts benefit from multiple therapies such as individual counselling, group sessions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well as a range of alternative therapies like music therapy, art therapy, martial arts, and more. As such, look for a treatment facility that offers multiple therapy options.
4. Customized treatments: No two addicts have exactly the same needs and goals, and as such it’s important to choose a rehab facility that offers customized treatment plans.
5. Principles: Each rehab facility – no matter how small or large – is built on core principles that may include moral, ethical or spiritual elements and concepts. As such, it’s important to choose a rehab facility that is guided by principles that an addict is most likely to embrace and draw strength from.
6. Demographics: Many addicts feel safer and more comfortable when they’re joined on their journey by people who they can relate to, such as those around the same age range. Keep this in mind when choose among rehab facilities and inquire about the typical age of those seeking treatment.
7. Licensed staff: It’s essential for addicts to be treated by licensed medical staff, as well as licensed therapists who run individual and group sessions. Be sure that any rehab facility under consideration is staffed by trained, compassionate and licensed professionals.
8. Reputation: Credible rehab facilities will have a track record for helping addicts and supporting them after they’ve achieved sobriety. They should also be happy to provide names of alumni who have graduated from their facility (and who have of course given permission to be a reference). Plus, credible rehab facilities should be willing to openly respond to any negative reviews they’ve received (typically via the Internet) so they can share their side of the story.
9. Costs: For most individuals and families, rehab is a “big ticket” expense and that may be prohibitive. Good rehab facilities accept insurance, plus they’ll provide financing alternatives such as payment plans, financial aid, government grants and more to help cover the costs.
10. Family support: it comes a surprise – even a shock – to many family members that some rehab facilities will severely limit contact with their loved one once treatment begin. Other rehab facilities, however, promote and encourage family contact and see it as an important part of the recovery process. Make sure to evaluate this aspect.
11. Involvement: Family members often want to be part of the therapy process, but find out that the treatment facility supporting their loved one feels otherwise. As such, it’s important to explore this aspect and determine what kind of treatment facility is going to work best: one that involves them, or one that limits their involvement.
12. After-care: Addiction recovery is a life-long commitment that doesn’t end when formal in-patient treatment has concluded. As such, it’s essential to explore the availability of after-care programs and treatment, and clearly see what kind of structured support system will be in place upon graduation.
