Date:6/23/2009

Stepping stone for community hospital customers to reach ARRA criteria

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthcare Management Systems, Inc.(R) (HMS) is pleased to announce that our latest software release is now generally available for deployment to all customers. The new release features many advanced clinical innovations designed to assist physicians and clinicians in improving the patient care experience and expands upon the functionality that meets the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT(R)) inpatient electronic health record (EHR) criteria for 2007.

Though HMS' CCHIT certification is valid through 2010, HMS is already working diligently on programming enhancements to prepare for CCHIT re-certification for the 2009 criteria.

"We endeavor to be well-positioned to help our customers meet the 'meaningful use' criteria and qualify for reimbursement monies at the first opportunity under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)," says Tom Stephenson, president and chief executive officer of HMS.

"HMS is committed to furthering healthcare technology and, especially in light of the forthcoming health IT standards mandated by the government, we encourage our nearly 650 community hospital customers to embrace the progress with us and take advantage of all opportunities that go along with implementing EHRs," Stephenson concludes.

From the extensive Beta testing, numerous customers have already successfully implemented the new software release. An ongoing roll-out of the release to the rest of the customer base will take place throughout the year. Benefits for customers include:

  • Improved healthcare price transparency with patient charge estimator;
  • Increased nursing efficiency with patient vital sign monitor integration;
  • Enhanced compute
