SECAUCUS, N.J., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles area dogs and dog guardians are coming together for the first annual Freshpet(R) Bark for the Cure(TM), a five kilometer fun run and walk that will take place Saturday, October 4th at 9 a.m. in Griffith Park - Park Center (adjacent to the Equestrian Trail). The event will raise money and awareness for canine cancer research. All proceeds will benefit the Freshpet(R) Foundation, a charity whose mission is to improve the understanding of nutrition's role in the prevention and treatment of disease in dogs, including cancer. Freshpet(R) will also make a donation to the non-profit L.A. Parks Foundation supporting all the parks in the City of Los Angeles.

Dogs and dog lovers who would like to take part in Bark for the Cure(TM) can register at http://BarkfortheCure.com. To participate, registrants are asked to donate $15 per person (children under 10 are free) and $1 for dogs. Participants can raise additional funds through the website by sending customized emails to their friends and family seeking donations.

The fun run will be followed by a FREE honorary celebration for dogs and their guardians. Post-event festivities will kick off with an awards ceremony for the top fundraisers and continue with Frisbee and agility course demonstrations, as well as exhibits including Freshpet(R) fresh dog food sampling stations and local pet & human products and services.

Freshpet(R) will make a donation to the L.A. Parks Foundation for each person participating in the event.
