2009 Kohl’s Cares for Kids campaign raises valuable funds for children’s health services in Washington area

Washington, DC (Vocus) December 21, 2009 -- At a ceremony held at the Children’s Health Project of DC’s annual holiday party in Washington, DC’s southeast neighborhood on Dec. 14, Angel Schmitz, D18 auditor, and Melanie Dickson, D18 loss prevention manager for Kohl’s Department Stores, presented a check for $432,641 to Barbara Schroeder, director of corporate and foundation relations at Children’s National Medical Center.

Others who donated gifts and participated in the celebration were Washington Wizard Caron Butler, radio/TV personality Jeannie Jones, the Grant My Wish Foundation, and others.

Schroeder said, “The children of our community benefit greatly from Kohl’s support, and we appreciate the company’s commitment to the children we serve.” This year’s donation continues Kohl’s commitment to the Kohl’s Community Asthma Program, which will provide asthma prevention education to high-risk children and their families in the metropolitan Washington region.

Kohl’s commitment to Children’s National Medical Center is made possible through Kohl’s Cares for Kids. Net profits from the sale of special merchandise support children’s health and education; through 2008, Kohl’s has raised more than $126 million for such initiatives nationwide. The program also includes the Kohl’s Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program for youth volunteers, fundraising gift cards for local schools and nonprofit groups, and an associate prog
