Kids Into Safe Skin (K.I.S.S) Officially Launches Today with a Mission to Create Awareness About Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention

ibotsky and Mrs. Karen Sprague. Throughout the year, additional teen advisors will be selected to help increase awareness of the organization and empower youth to talk to their parents about skin cancer prevention and early detection.

“Growing up as the son of a dermatologist, I always understood the importance of skin cancer awareness and early detection,” said Juan Pellerano, Founder of K.I.S.S. “Sadly, with the loss of my friend Brooke’s father to Stage Four Melanoma skin cancer, I ultimately saw the impact first-hand. I know that this tragic fate could have been prevented through early detection, and in memory of Brooke’s father Michael Sprague, Brooke and I have created K.I.S.S. to urge adults to examine themselves for possible lethal, skin cancers. It is our combined hope that kids will not have to face such a preventable and devastating loss as we did.”

K.I.S.S. is a multi-generational approach to preventing skin cancer, as the organization will be used as an educational tool for both parents and children. Through community outreach, expert speaking engagements, informational detection guides and a dedicated Web site, participants in the program will be provided with all of the necessary tools to care for their family’s skin and safety. Additionally, K.I.S.S. will participate as a sponsor to many local events that support the organization’s mission, such as the Skim for Skin event.

“We are thrilled to be able to participate in the 1st annual Skin Cancer Awareness Day event and to help educate the community with simple tips and helpful habits to protect their skin,” says Pellerano. “It may be as simple as wearing hats and protective clothing during any outdoor activity and using appropriate sun protective lotions – even on a cloudy day.
