Kicking For The Dream Raises Over $40,000 to Fight Ovarian Cancer in its 2013 Fundraising Campaign
Date:1/5/2014

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 05, 2014

After surpassing its original fundraising goal of raising $20,000, and then surpassing its next goal of $30,000, Kicking For The Dream raised over $40,000 in its 2013 fundraising effort according to Kicking For The Dream Founder NFL Kicker Billy Cundiff.

Cundiff says he overwhelmed by the success of Kicking For The Dreams fundraising efforts, especially considering this was the first year, of what Cundiff says will be an annual event.

"We could not be more thrilled about doubling our initial fundraising goal," says Cundiff. "This fundraising effort was fueled by amazing people that put in a ton of work and spread a ton of awareness about ovarian cancer along the way. We are already excited about next year."

Cundiff says Kicking For The Dream was created to bring kicking specialists together -from every level- to join in the fight against ovarian cancer.

Some of the NFL kicking specialists who joined Kicking For The Dream’s fundraising efforts included NFL Kicker Nick Novak and NFL Punter Spencer Lanning. Novak raised over $7,100 and Lanning raised over $5,000.

Some of the high school kicking specialists who joined Kicking For The Dream’s included Luke Taylor, Joseph Giglio and Grant Ryerse. Taylor raised over $3,000, Giglio raised over $2500 and Ryerse raised over $550.

And then there was ovarian cancer survivor Jill Pall who raised over $9,000 for Kicking For The Dream, and learned how to kick at the same time.

"Kicking specialists are some of the most caring and generous people I know," says Cundiff. "And the support Kicking For The Dream has received from so many kicking specialists in this fundraising effort just confirms that."

Cundiff says all money raised by Kicking For The Dream goes directly to Colleen’s Dream Foundation, a foundation he and his wife Nicole started in 2012 as a result of his mother-in-laws’ battle with ovarian cancer.

"Many women succumb to this disease within a short period of time, because unlike cervical or breast cancer, ovarian cancer does not have a standardized early detection procedure," says Cundiff. "That is what happened to my mother-in-law, Colleen Drury."

Cundiff says it was Colleen’s "dream" that someday other women would not have to go through what she went through when faced with ovarian cancer.

"Colleen felt it was important to raise money for research that will lead to reliable early detection testing and improved treatment for ovarian cancer," says Cundiff. "Because so little is known about ovarian cancer in proportion to other women’s health issues, we have an incredible opportunity for research and education."

About Kicking For The Dream:

Billy Cundiff, who is the kicker for the Cleveland Browns, and has been an NFL kicker for over 10 years for teams such as the Cowboys, Saints, Ravens and Redskins, launched Kicking For The Dream in May of 2013, as an effort to support Colleen’s Dream Foundation, a foundation which raises money to support research for the early detection of, and improved treatment for, ovarian cancer.

About Colleen's Dream Foundation:

Colleen’s Dream Foundation started in 2012 and supports research for early detection and improved treatment for ovarian cancer.

The story of Colleen’s Dream started in 2007 when Billy Cundiff’s mother-in-law, Colleen Drury, was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer. It was only then that Colleen and her family realized a new world that was filled with invasive surgery, harsh chemotherapy, and lots of uncertainty.

Colleen’s Dream Foundation believes it is important to raise money for research that will lead to reliable early detection testing and improved treatment for ovarian cancer. Because so little is known about ovarian cancer in proportion to other women’s health issues, we have an incredible opportunity for research and education.

Colleen’s Dream is working with some of the top research hospitals and universities that are researching ovarian cancer. By offering seed funding to young investigators, the Foundation funds cutting-edge research by some of the brightest, young minds in the world.

Colleen’s Dream Foundation is a qualified 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona.
