Kettlebell World Champ Lorna Kleidman Praises Findings That Kettlebell Exercises Increase Aerobic Capacity
Date:4/20/2013

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) April 20, 2013

On April 20, 2013, three-time kettlebell world champion Lorna Kleidman commends a recent study conducted by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) that demonstrates kettlebell exercises increase cardiovascular fitness. While kettlebell exercises have long been associated with improving muscular strength, balance and flexibility, they are now proving to build endurance.

According to the ACE study, male and female subjects were put through a series of kettlebell exercises – including hand swings, snatches, cleans, lunges, presses and Turkish get-ups. After a two-month training period, the subjects showed substantial increases in aerobic capacity, strength, balance, and flexibility.

Dr. John Porcari, head of the University’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science, acknowledges that although most people don’t associate resistance training with aerobic capacity, researchers saw aerobic capacity increasing by almost 15 percent.

Dr. Porcari further explained the benefits of including kettlebell exercises as a part of a fitness routine, “Kettlebell training increases strength, which you’d expect, but you also get these other benefits.” He added, “You don’t really do resistance training expecting to get an aerobic capacity benefit, and you don’t do resistance training and expect to improve your core strength, unless of course you’re specifically doing core-strengthening exercises. But with kettlebells you’re able to get a wide variety of benefits with one pretty intense workout.”

The results also suggest that the benefits conferred by kettlebell exercises are of particular interest and importance to the elderly. According to the same study,
