Kettlebell Expert Lorna Kleidman Responds to the Rise in Fitness Parks throughout Major Cities

On January 1, Lorna Kleidman comments on a recent article about the increase in free fitness parks in cities all over the United States.

A recent article from USA Today said that “80 outdoor fitness zones currently are being built nationwide.” The article goes on to state, “Leading the effort is the Trust for Public Land, a non-profit land conservation group that created its Fitness Zones program about three years ago to help cities fund outdoor health playgrounds.”

Usually these fitness parks have about six to eight exercise units; however there are some larger ones – such as the park in New Orleans that has 18, reports USA Today.

The article went on to say that “nearly 50% of Americans get less than the minimum recommended amount of physical activity, and 36% of U.S. adults engage in no leisure-time physical activity at all.” The idea behind the fitness parks is to provide a free and convenient means of exercise to citizens.

The recent rise in these fitness parks is unprecedented. According to the article, Florida currently has 17 of them, eight of which opened in the last year.

Lorna Kleidman, a fitness expert and trainer of kettlebells, comments on this new fitness trend, saying that it is a great way to help solve the nation’s weight crisis. “A big problem for some people trying to lose weight is the fact that it can be very expensive,” she said. “These fitness parks are great because they’re free and from what I’ve seen can offer some fun and effective exercises.”

Kleidman added that it is important to utilize correct form when using these fitness parks. Not doing so can potentially lead to an injury. However, many of the exercise units offer de
